Content Management Systems

 

You know you need to keep your site up to date with  information about your products and services. This may need to be done daily, weekly or monthly. This is an essential part of running a good on-line strategy.  In your already busy business  life we do not want to add to your burden by asking you to learn new complicated skills just so you can manage the information on your web site.

 

Well the good news is you do not  have to.  Content Management Systems  are used to allow non technical people easily update  thieir web sites. Like many things in life they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. In order to ensure Webworks.ie where offering our clients the best and most appropriate solutions we reviewed many to see if they where suitable for our needs. Our conclusion was to develop our own.

 

This is exactly what we have been doing for the last seven years, Our content management system is called WebMe (  Web Management Engine) and is currently helping all sorts of people such as teachers, hoteliers, community groups, golfers and ,mechanics  to mention but a few keep their web sites up to date. 

 

WebMe  has the following featues

 

  • Have ability to add remove or update text and images on a page

  • Be able to format (italics, bold, number list, centre etc) the text on a page using a familiar word-like palette.

  • Have ability to add, remove or move pages on the web site

  • When creating a new page it can have the default design of the site or if available one can select a design from a list of designs available via a drop down menu.

  • When creating a web page it will have a meaningful URL e.g.

    http://www.domainname.ie/term-and-conditions
    http://www.domainname.ie/contact-us

  • When creating a new page it needs to go somewhere on the site so it can be read, one can assign it as a child of a page already on the site which will then become its parent, this means it will appear as a drop-down option or sub page of the parent page. If no parent page is selected then the new page will appear in the main navigation

  • Pages can also be set not to appear in the navigation menu

  • Pages can be moved about the site by simply changing their parent page.

  • If required have ability to make Word, PDF, Mp3,Powerpoint or Flash files available for download / play on the web site. Any type of file can be uploaded.

  • Dynamic table creation (for photo galleries, data lists, etc)

  • Automatic image resizing.

  • Panels, for administration of ads, or content that appears on multiple pages..

  • It is a web based system and so can be used from anywhere one has access to the Net.

  • No special software is required, Internet Explorer or other browser is all that is required.

  • Access to all administration functions of the CMS can be found at http://www.domainname.ie/ww.admin/ and are protected by a log-on page requiring a valid user-name and password.

  • Before any page in the administration area load a check is done to ensure the person using the site has successfully logged in.

  • All of the textual content will be searchable via a keyword search on the site.

  • One can using the user-name & password system allow some members of staff access to only certain functions. This allows one to distribute the management of the site over a few members of staff.

  • Ability to add page titles for Search Engine Optimisation.

  • Ability to add keyword and description meta tags to pages for Search Engine Optimisation.

  • Ability to use H1, H2 tags etc for Search Engine Optimisation.

  • Excellent on-line help system.
